Project 2: Participation-Focused Longitudinal Cohort Study of Individuals Aging with a Long-Term Physical Disability

What is this project about?

People aging with long-term physical disabilities (PAwLTPD) experience a greater acceleration of aging related to health conditions compared to the general population. PAwLTPD are often excluded from research so there is limited longitudinal research exploring changes in participation as adults with disabilities age. There is also limited research exploring how personal and environmental factors affect community participation in PAwLTPD.

Project Aims

  • Aim 1: Examine the trajectory of community participation over three years for PAwLTPD.
  • Aim 2: Examine the relationship between receipt of informal and formal long-term services and supports on levels of community participation over three years for PAwLTPD.

What does this study involve?

We will be recruiting 550 participants to complete three 30-minute surveys over three years. Surveys will be collected online or over the phone.

Participants will include adults between the ages of 45-65 who have had a physical disability for at least five years. Survey participants will receive a $16 gift card for each survey they complete for a total of up to $48.

Status: In development. We will be recruiting participants soon! If you are interested in participating, please contact us.
